Today in session, the Commissioners were joined by the Delaware-Morrow Mental Health & Recovery Services Board, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the Delaware Public Health District to recognize September as National Recovery Month. Substance use and mental health disorders are treatable, and this month reminds us that people should seek assistance for these conditions with the same urgency as they would any other health condition. More than 10,000 Delaware County residents received behavioral healthcare services from the county’s publicly funded system in the first half of fiscal year 2025.

As of Sept. 1, Ken O’Brien, a former Delaware County commissioner and Berlin Township trustee, is the newest elected official in Delaware County. He oversees an operation that is charged with managing the collection and investment of the county’s monies. O’Brien won office as County Treasurer in the November 2024 general election, but, due to the mandates of state law, his term did not start until the first Monday of September 2025 and will run through Sept 2, 2029.

Labor Day: Many County offices are closed today.

Today in session, the Commissioners recognized athletes from two @olentangylocalschools on their state championships during the spring season, the Olentangy Liberty girls’ lacrosse team and the Olentangy High School baseball team. Congratulations are also due to the following individual champions who represented Delaware County well in state competition: Brooke C. (1600 Meter Run, Olentangy Orange), Lila B. (Long Jump, Olentangy Liberty), Matthew S. (1600 Meter Run, Olentangy Orange), CJ S. (Discus Throw, Olentangy High School)!
