Early in-person voting begins for the Ohio general election on Oct. 7. Election Day is Nov. 4. A ballot question to renew the 911 levy and add a 0.05-mill increase is on the ballot. Here is information to help you decide how you will vote:
The current funding situation:
• The current levy, approved by voters in November 2020, generates about $5.3 million per year and expires Jan. 1, 2027.
• If approved by voters, collection on the November 2025 levy will begin Jan. 1, 2027, and is estimated to generate $5.9 million per year.
Current and future operational needs:
• Equipment used in our transmission tower sites will become obsolete by 2032, so a $10.9 million investment in new technology is needed before then.
• Wooden shelters (now 20+ years old) at our tower sites must be replaced at a total cost of $1 million.
• Consoles in our dispatch center will become obsolete by 2030 and must be replaced at a cost of $1.8 million.
• Other equipment that is already at or nearing the end of its functional life must be replaced at a cost of $1.4 million.

We`re just back from this morning`s annual Delaware-Morrow Mental Health & Recovery Services Board annual meeting and awards ceremony, held at the Byxbe Building. Congratulations to Kassie Neff from the Delaware County, OHIO, Sheriff`s Office and Charles Carlson from the Delaware County Coroner`s Office, as well as Scott Cubberly, a former member of our Finance Authority, who received awards for their outstanding work improving mental health awareness and resources in our community. We were also fortunate to hear from former OSU football and mental-health advocate Harry Miller about his journey to better health: Learn more about the work he does through his #DontMakeItWeird Foundation at dmiw.org. Thank you also to retired Ohio Supreme Court Justice Eve Stratton for joining Commissioner Barb Lewis in honoring Kassie Neff`s work with the Stepping Up Initiative. @dmmhrsb @delawarecosheriff

It’s Jug Day! Many Delaware County offices will be closed this afternoon. We will resume normal business hours and operations tomorrow.

We’re back after our morning at the Delaware County Fair, where the Commissioners held session and heard from a few of the 4-H exhibitors participating in this year’s Junior Fair! We also recognized Donna Meyer for her nearly 10 years of service as executive director of the Delaware County Historical Society. The Delaware County Fair continues through Saturday, offering many outstanding events, hundreds of displays and several days of harness racing leading up to the 80th running of the Little Brown Jug on Thursday.
