ROAD DEPARTMENT

The Concord Township Board of Trustees would like to call to your attention several items of importance regarding you and your township.

ROAD RIGHT OF WAY

Questions involving the road right of way are the most common and sometimes distressing that come to the attention of the trustees. Many residents have added landscaping and other items near the edge of the road, only to hear from us that they must be removed. Rocks placed around mailboxes are a common problem. While they are beautiful to see, they become hurling missiles if our snowplow hits them. Some people have placed large landscape boulders that are at the end of their driveways, but are still in the right of way. These obstacles are not only dangerous for road traffic, but may also impede a clear view of the road especially near curves or corners.
Garbage cans placed on the side of the road instead of instead of in the driveway are another problem for our snowplow, as are cars parked on the road.
The road right of way is in the area of the road bed and the ditches on either side of the road. Most of the right of ways in our township are 50 feet, but some are even greater. It is against township regulations to put ANYTHING in the right of way except a mailbox. If you are concerned about anything you may have near . the edge of the road, or simply wish to .know the distance of a fifty foot right of way boundary, stand in the middle of the road and measure 25 feet to the right and 25 feet to the left. You will probably be surprised at the at the distance beyond the center of the road that is the right of way. Again, please remove any rocks, posts or ornaments you have in this area. For more information on right of ways call the township road department at (740) 881-3844.

MAILBOX DAMAGE

If the .township snowplow hits your mailbox, and you need help in repairing it, all attempts to assist you will be made. However, only a standard pole and box will be used. Often several days of snow occupy our road crew with just plowing and we may not get to mailbox assistance in a timely manner, we ask your patience and cooperation.

ROAD DITCHES

Our township ditches are maintained only by the township. Mowing and cleaning are done on a regular basis. No one is permitted to fill in any ditches in front of their house without contacting The Delaware County engineer at 833-2400. Some residents have laid pipe in their ditch and filled it with earth to facilitate mowing, but this can cause many water problems for people living beyond the filled ditch. All ditch work must be engineered by the property owner and approved by the county engineer and the township.
