| Concord Township began its history as a small rural community
in 1819. Rafting was the major source of income due to the
abundance of trees and the Scioto River as a water source
to Columbus. Wealthy capitalists made an attempt to bring
about steamboat navigation to the Scioto. However, the fall
of the river made this endeavor impossible. Many residents
don't know that the Scioto Village correctional facility (located
on the corner of Home Road and State Route 745) was originally
constructed in 1842 as a health resort, offering water, with
rare medicinal properties to affluent patrons. In 1869, declining
in popularity, the resort was sold to the State of Ohio. It
then became a Juvenile Correctional institute. From the small
group of pioneers settling the area in 1819, our present population
has grown to over 6000. |
