Dave Yost is in his third term as Delaware County
Prosecuting Attorney.
Yost
won the first-ever capital sentence in Delaware
County in 2003, State v. Gerald
Hand. A defender of Megan’s Law unconstitutionality
claims,
Yost filed the
first eviction action against a convicted sex
offender living within 1,000 feet of a school.
He
has taken an aggressive stand on white-collar
cases, winning convictions under the corrupt
activities statute, commonly known as the Ohio RICO
statute.
Before becoming county prosecutor, Yost served as
Delaware County Auditor and received the Certificate
of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the
Government Finance Officers Association and the
Auditor of State’s Award.
Prior to that, Yost practiced law in Delaware and served
on Delaware City Council. He served in senior posts
in the administrations of Columbus Mayor Dana G.
“Buck” Rinehart and Governor George V. Voinovich.
He has also won several awards as a newspaper reporter for
the old Columbus Citizen-Journal, and taught
on the adjunct faculty of Columbus State College.
After graduating from Big Walnut High School in
1975, he received his Bachelor of Arts from The Ohio
State University and his Juris Doctor from
Capital University Law School. Yost has lived most of his life in Delaware County
and is a member of NorthGate Community Church and
the Sunbury Rotary. He lives in Delaware Township
with his wife of 29 years, Darlene. Dave and Darlene
have three
children, David, Guenivere and Charis.
