Worthington Road & Big Walnut Road Intersection (Genoa Township)


Construction Updates:


August 31, 2017

Phase 2 of the Worthington and Big Walnut Road intersection will begin on September 5.  The south and west legs of the intersection will close while the north and east legs reopen to traffic.  Local traffic should enter/exit the work zone from the west and south ends of the project beginning Tuesday.  Overall completion is planned for mid-November.


May 16, 2017

Road construction is scheduled to begin May 30, 2017 on a project to upgrade the intersection of Worthington and Big Walnut Road with turn lanes and a new traffic signal.


The first construction phase will include a closure of Big Walnut Road from Worthington Road to Satinwood Drive/Ketterington Lane, and Worthington Road north of Big Walnut Road.  Traffic will be matinained on the west and south legs of the intersection.


Phase 2 will begin in September 2017 with a reversal of the detour.  Worthington Road south of Big Walnut, and Big Walnut East of Worthington Road will be closed.  Traffic will be maintained on the north and east legs of the intersection.

Notice of Public Meeting:

The Delaware County Engineer’s Office would like to invite you to an informational meeting regarding planned improvements to the Worthington Road/Big Walnut Road Intersection.  The County Engineer is considering improvements including adding turn lanes and a traffic signal, improving the alignment of Big Walnut Road east of the intersection, improvement of the Satinwood Drive/Ketterington Lane/Big Walnut Road intersection, and minor drainage improvements for this corridor.  Maps and other information will be available for your review. The meeting will be held:

The meeting will be an open house format, and you are free to come and go as your schedule allows.  There will be no formal presentation.  Representatives from the County Engineer’s Office and the design consultant will be available to answer your questions about the project.  If you are unable to attend the meeting, the information displayed at the meeting will also be available on the Delaware County Engineer’s website.

Project Description:
Traffic flow improvements to the intersection of Worthington Road and Big Walnut Road.  The alternatives being considered include a traffic signal with turn lanes or a modern roundabout.  Improvements are also being considered to Big Walnut Road extending east to Satinwood/Ketterington Lane to address the sharp curve in Big Walnut Road.


Project Location and Limits:
Extending approximatley 1/4 mile in each direction of the intersection.

Road Closure Information:
Phased closure of the intersection totalling about 5 months.

Right-of-way acquisition: 2015-16
Utility relocation: Fall 2016 to Spring 2017
