STORMWATER DEPARTMENT The stormwater administration staff is responsible for administration of the Phase II National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Storm Water Program. The staff inspects the drainage and erosion control on construction projects in Delaware County to ensure that surface waters are not contaminated by sediment and runoff from construction sites. The drainage administrator coordinates waterway and stormwater permits for the construction activity done by other sections of the office, and also works closely with the Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District on drainage projects such as ditch and farm tile construction.

Ditch and waterway maintenance: The Delaware County Engineer works closely with the Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District in the maintenance of ditches and waterways. Not all waterways are publicly maintained, but certain ditches, swales, ponds and other water courses are maintained through the collection of annual assessments or fees. This relieves the individual property owners of the burden of costly maintenance or repair when a farm tile breaks or a severe storm causes erosion that blocks an open water course.
