MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT The Delaware County Maintenance Department is responsible for repairs and up-keep of 200 county vehicles and pieces of equipment. This includes cars, pickup trucks, a large hydraulic excavator, single and tandem-axle dump trucks, motor graders, skid steers and pumps. In the Maintenance Department we complete about 800 work orders each year on the vehicles and equipment operated by the Delaware County Engineer’s Office. The estimated value of the vehicles and equipment is about $4.6 million.
The shop superintendent manages the daily maintenance operations, including budgeting, parts ordering, inventory of machine parts and construction supplies and writing specifications for new equipment to be purchased. The Engineer’s Office stocks a supply of signs, pipe, gravel and other building materials needed for emergency repairs to roads or bridges, or to ensure that project schedules are not delayed by late deliveries by suppliers. The County Auditor reviews this inventory on a yearly basis.
