ABOUT US

Design Department

The Delaware County Engineer's Office Design Department handles a variety of unique and challenging projects. The Design Department currently employs seven individuals consisting of professional engineers, graduate engineers, surveyors and technicians.

Each staff member has a variety of responsibilities and manages several projects at any one time. With the continued growth of the County, these responsibilities along with the department itself will continue to grow in an effort to meet the demand.

The Design Group at the Delaware County Engineer's Office strives to be detail oriented, accurate and professional, providing the best possible service to all residents of Delaware County.
 

Responsibilities
Capital improvement projects are a large aspect of the design group’s responsibility. The Design Department assists the County Engineer in completing capital improvement projects in the following ways:

• Planning - Prepares long range transportation plans and identifies specific projects.

• Programming - Schedules projects and determine funding needs and potential sources.

• Budgeting - Prepares annual budgets for capital projects.

• Engineering Administration - Manages design engineering contracts for larger projects in which consulting firms are used.

• Surveying - Collects field data using electronic surveying equipment and performs construction staking for in-house construction projects.

• Engineering Studies - Completes various traffic studies such as speed limit analyses, traffic signal warrants and sight distance investigations as well as other studies such as culvert and bridge hydraulic engineering.

• Detailed Design - Performs detailed design engineering for projects including drafting and preparation of construction plans for roadway, bridge, drainage, and traffic control projects.

• Right-of-Way - Designs right-of-way and acquires necessary property and easements for projects to be built.

• Construction Management - Manages construction contracts for projects for capital projects, including scheduling, supervision of the work, and review of invoices.

• Public Involvement and Outreach - Communicates with residents and interacts with public agencies regarding Delaware County's transportation projects.

Township Engineering
