Delaware County EMS is one of the largest emergency medical service agencies in Central Ohio, with some the area's most dedicated emergency service professionals. We are Delaware County's front line of coverage in a medical emergency!

The Delaware County EMS Division is currently accepting applications for part-time EMT-Paramedics.  Candidates will be required to participate in a skills and abilities test as part of the application process, as outlined below.

Necessary qualifications include:

  • Possess a valid State of Ohio EMT-Paramedic Certification (at the time of APPLICATION);

  • Possess a valid BLS and ACLS Certification. Certification in Hazmat Operations is preferred;

  • Possess a current and valid State of Ohio driver's license

  • Previous experience as an EMT-Paramedic is preferred

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing and administering emergency medical care to patients based on standing medical orders and departmental standard operating guidelines

  • Supporting countywide emergency medical service operations by working cooperatively with local agencies, and performing public relations activities

  • Completing detailed run reports and daily documentation, and

  • Maintaining the condition of EMS stations, vehicles and equipment

Delaware County EMS Job Descriptions

The DCEMS Hiring Process:

  • DCEMS will publish and post the dates, time and location of the testing. Postings are placed in the Human Resources Department, the Human Resources website, as well as here on this website.  This will include the dates and times to submit an application.

  • All applicants must complete an Application for Employment prior to the deadline before the testing date, and complete all necessary documentation.  A resume may be submitted to supplement the application, but may not be used in lieu of.

  • Applicants will be contacted by Human Resources personnel and given a confirmation of the date, time and location for the testing. This date will be selected by DCEMS.  Human Resources will make a reasonable effort to accommodate the schedule of the applicant.  However, if the applicant cannot comply within the options of the schedule that are provided, they will not be accepted as a new hire candidate.

  • All applicants MUST arrive to their scheduled pre-hire examination ON TIME.  IF the applicant is greater than ten (10) minutes late for their assigned testing time, the applicant will not be permitted to take the exam.

  • All applicants must present a current and valid State of Ohio driver's license and evidence of Paramedic certification at the time of their examination.  If the applicant can not present at the time of their examination, they will not be permitted to test.

  • All applicants will sign in at the designated registration area and await their turn to test.

  • A runner will take the applicants to the testing stations.  At no time will candidates and the DCEMS testing proctors mingle or fraternize.  This includes prior to, during, between, or after testing sessions.

  • There are TWO testing scenarios that comprise the pre-hire skills evaluation and physical agility examination.  They include:

  • Cardiac / Medical Patient: Treatment / management of the critical patient, lifting of the patient and proper usage of the Ferno model 28z cot. The test proctor will be a credentialed instructor following the standards and guidelines established by the American Heart Association for Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

  • Trauma Patient: Treatment / management of the critical patient, lifting of the patient, and proper usage of the Ferno model 28z cot. Test proctor will be a credentialed instructor following the standards and guidelines established by the American College of Emergency Physicians for International Trauma Life Support and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

  • Should the need arise for a formal protest and/or appeal of a test, the applicant MUST complete their appeal PRIOR TO LEAVING THE TESTING SITE.  A document of PROTEST & APPEAL of TESTING RESULTS will be kept at the registration area.  In the event that an applicant believes that he/she was treated or graded unjustly or unfairly, they must complete the document and give it to the person overseeing testing registration.  Again, ALL PROTESTS AND APPEALS MUST BE INITIATED PRIOR TO LEAVING THE TESTING SITE.

  • Human Resources will notify all applicants of their success or failure of the New Hire Candidate testing.  This will be done in a timely manner so that the applicant is aware of his/her results as quickly as possible.

  • Applicants that have successfully completed the practical testing MAY be scheduled for an interview, at the  discretion of Human Resources and the Director/Chief of EMS.

  • The background investigation, drug screening and driver's abstract will be completed by the Human Resources Staff.

  • After  interview process, all candidates will be notified by Human Resources, and offered or denied a position with DCEMS.  At this time they will be given a time and location for their orientation.  This date will be selected by DCEMS.

  • All newly hired DCEMS Paramedics must attend the Delaware County New Hire Employee Orientation, the DCEMS Orientation and attend the DCEMS Drivers Training Program PRIOR to beginning their Field Training Internship.
