Volunteer Guardian Program

Someone needs you...because not everyone has someone.

The Delaware County Volunteer Guardian Program is recruiting, screening, and training people to be court appointed 'Guardians of the Person."

Volunteer Guardians serve individuals who have no family or assets and whose ability to make informed decisions in their own best interest is diminished because of mental disabilities. Volunteer Guardians do not have financial responsibility for the person they are serving.

People served by Volunteer Guardians are more than 18 years of age, live in group care settings, and have mental impairments. The mental impairments may be caused by many different conditions, including mental retardation, dementia, or long-term chronic mental illness. Whatever the reason for the impairment, their ability to process information and conduct their affairs has deteriorated; they are alone; and they need someone to help them.

The Delaware County Volunteer Guardian Program is operated by the Central Ohio Area Aqency on Aginq (COAAA) in cooperation with the Delaware County Probate Court and the Council for Older Adults of Delaware County.
